Let me rephrase. Mr. Englerth is a realist. Obviously, this is a problem for dreamers and potheads...and the people no one imagines anything of who COULD grow to accomplish the things no one can imagine.

I wish I was not naive enough to listen to his advice.

Such a kind man, but remember to realize your dreams--whether Mr. Englerth deems them realistic or not.

I deserve to work towards my dreams, but he has pushed me to close the doors to them. I should have never listened to him.

Such a kind man but needs to stop judging students based on the gifted burnout kid stereotype. Mr. Englerth, I know Gen Z has unprecedented depression and anxiety rates, but please do not assume a particular student is stressed--and definitely do not assume they are mentally unstable--because they have high academic performance.

He truly cares about students but lacks the risk-taking ability and empathy to help them. He needs to realize that some kids have large ambitions and are willing to work hard to accomplish them. Those students simply need help working towards their aspirations--not someone telling them to think more "on the safe side." In case you see this, Mr. Englerth, this remark is not a hate comment; I really want you to reach your potential as a guidance counselor and use the amazing heart inside you. Your wall has "Be yourself" with a butterfly. Rather than supporting your version of what a student should be, support a student as they are. Let them soar like a butterfly to the college, career, and life of their dreams. You have what it takes. Use it!

I am a parent and was surprised by Mr. Englerth. He is clearly not qualified, and I am suspicious of his qualifications to even be employed by the high school. He does not seem to care and even if he did, I don't think he has the aptitude to help.

Mr. Englerth has a huge heart and definitely cares, but he does kinda try too hard to be sensitive. I know he's just trying to be nice, but it does make things awkward. Like, he was overly concerned I couldn't handle certain AP's even though pardon my judgement, I knew I was just as capable as kids who were taking them. My initial thought was, "Do you think I'm not as smart as them?" Then, I realized, he has the whole "concerned about kids' stress levels" thing, and it made more sense.
