I am a parent and was surprised by Mr. Englerth. He is clearly not qualified, and I am suspicious of his qualifications to even be employed by the high school. He does not seem to care and even if he did, I don't think he has the aptitude to help.

He truly cares about students but lacks the risk-taking ability and empathy to help them. He needs to realize that some kids have large ambitions and are willing to work hard to accomplish them. Those students simply need help working towards their aspirations--not someone telling them to think more "on the safe side." In case you see this, Mr. Englerth, this remark is not a hate comment; I really want you to reach your potential as a guidance counselor and use the amazing heart inside you. Your wall has "Be yourself" with a butterfly. Rather than supporting your version of what a student should be, support a student as they are. Let them soar like a butterfly to the college, career, and life of their dreams. You have what it takes. Use it!

I'm not sure if I believe you, but if that's true, his behavior is beyond strange. What kind of friggin' GUIDANCE COUNSELOR would push a kid to believe they're mentally ill? Honestly, the opposite problem, where a kid tells their gc about their anxiety disorder and is dismissed, is what I often hear. This is such a strange allegation. Either he's messed up big time, or you're twice as messed up and made up this story in attempt to tarnish his reputation. There's no middle ground.

I had Mr. Englerth's wife for my English class. The bluntness fits her writing style. Plus, she would refer to him by first name. Look, Mrs. Englerth or whomever you are, I do not mean to disrespect Mr. Englerth, but someone is not automatically a "dreamer" or "pothead" because they do not fully agree with how he counsels. Uhh, you sure about that? Please read the man's X (Twitter). He openly supports LGBT+ rights. He declared the Republican Party "the party of bigotry" when all the votes against the Equality Act were Republican. He's the kind of guy who thinks drag queens and trans people AREN'T the country's problem; assault rifles are.

No cap, wants to help kids. But he's an "I don't like to make assumptions--but I still assume" type. Think he needs to realize respect entitles more than tiptoeing around presumptions using vague, don't-cancel-me language. Genuinely don't think he realizes what he's doing.
